ICATS Overview
ICATS is the "Industrial Coatings Applicator Training Scheme".
The scheme was produced by Correx Ltd in conjunction with the Highways Agency and Network Rail as a response to the increased demands of industry. ICATS is a comprehensive structured training scheme for the registration, training and certification of industrial surface preparation and coating operatives.
The scheme has a mandatory basic unit "Industrial Coatings Applicator" that comprises of 6 modules - Health and Safety, Site Access, Plant and Equipment, Surface Preparation, Paint Types & Application and Quality Control.
Registered ICATS companies and operatives are now specified for many major projects and are mandated by major structure owners throughout the UK and further afield.
Industry sectors now benefiting by using ICATS operatives are:
- Highways bridges & gantries
- Railway stations, bridges and undergound
- Petrochemical & offshore structures
- Power generation
- Environmental structures, barriers and sluce gates.
- Major structural projects
- The scheme complements other industrial skills sector schemes and is recognised by CSCS.
